#2. Phoenix Suns – Ja Moran

Also moving up in this simulation are the Phoenix Suns from #3 to #2. Though technically tied with an identical record with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Suns lost a tiebreaker that lowered the “floor” of this pick to 7th overall.

Moving up to #2 is really the perfect scenario for Phoenix, as they are not forced to make a decision between Zion Williamson and dynamic point guard Ja Morant – who the team has been widely linked to for a while. If the Suns do win the lottery, that might aid the Atlanta Hawks in a very specific way, too.

Since Zion is already off the board, Morant is the perfect fallback option.

While we’ve already explored the possibility that the Suns would even take Morant #1 overall, with their selection sitting at second overall, there will likely only be one choice for the point guard-strapped Suns.

Morant is a highlight waiting to happen, and the team’s young core of Morant, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Devin Booker and bench youngsters like De’Anthony Melton and Elie Okobo would be extremely fun to watch grow and learn over the next few years – on offense at least.

Morant, in his second season with the Murray State Racers, finished #1 in the country in assists (331) and assists per game (10.) – showing a floor general mentality that would greatly help a playmaking-challenged team in the Suns.
