2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 2.0, Atlanta Hawks Pick #4 and #10, Lakers Win Lottery
By Chris Guest
#1. Los Angeles Lakers – Zion Williamson
That’s right, in this scenario, none other than the Los Angeles Lakers shuffle all the way up to #1 on the draft board – winning the lottery in one of the most epoch-defining drafts in recent history.
If this were to actually happen, there is literally no telling what the rest of the offseason would bring in the NBA, though you can be sure that all hell would break loose on NBA Twitter as people prepare their memes regarding the one and only choice – Zion Williamson – suiting up in the purple and gold.
Of course, the more reasonable explanation is that the Lakers would trade the rights to the #1 overall pick for Anthony Davis, as the Lakers having Zion on the board in trade discussions likely outweighs anything that the Celtics could give them.
As a counterpoint though, what if Zion stays with the Lakers and they opt not to trade for AD? Though we know that LeBron James isn’t crazy about playing with young players, Zion is perhaps the only player currently in the NBA that has a skill set that vaguely resembles Bron’s, so wouldn’t it be extremely fitting for James to serve as a mentor to Zion in what will (maybe) be his swan song in L.A.?
Though extremely unlikely to happen because the Lakers only have a two percent chance at landing the #1 overall pick, if it did, the possibility of the NBA changing forever is in the cards.
So there you have it! What do you think of this loopy 2019 NBA Draft scenario? This will likely be our last mock draft until the actual NBA Draft lottery takes place on May 15, but until then, stay tuned to Soaring Down South for plenty more Atlanta Hawks draft coverage.
