Kevin Durant / Klay Thompson

Not unexpectedly, this list begins with the two biggest names on either team that will be free agents this offseason (other than DeMarcus Cousins, who is recovering from injury and reportedly might re-sign with Golden State).

Could Kevin Durant help save his tarnished legacy by taking an Atlanta Hawks team to the Finals? What about Klay Thompson? Would he be happier on a team where he would be taking a bevy of wide-open shots off of extremely creative passes from Trae Young – who is already one of the best passers in the league?

Both players will likely require a massive, multi-year maximum contract to sign, but perhaps they might opt for a one-year exploratory deal (that’s still a max salary) to kick the tires on helping to accelerate the Atlanta Hawks rebuild.

Think about it. Just like the New York Knicks, the Atlanta Hawks have a massive cache of cap space that can be used on one max slot as well as potentially the number one overall pick in the draft in Zion Williamson.

With Zion and either of Durant or Thompson on the team, they would be an immediate Eastern Conference contender.

Sure, this is a highly unlikely scenario, as it seems that this current Atlanta Hawks administration is focused on developing organically through the draft with young players, but it’s still a titillating scenario to ponder.
