2019 NBA Draft: Atlanta Hawks Win Lottery, Land Zion in Recent Mock

Taking stock of a recent mock draft in which the Atlanta Hawks produce a miracle by winning the lottery and selecting Zion Williamson in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The buildup any NBA Draft (and especially the 2019 NBA Draft) is among the most exciting times in sports, and the Atlanta Hawks are in the thick of it this season as any and all teams will be praying to the ping-pong ball gods that their name is called with the #1 selection in the draft.

Of course, this draft, more so than most others, has a generational, transcendent talent that not only has immense name recognition and widespread clout already at age 18, but also has the incredible skill set, high motor and freakish athleticism to turn into a force of nature in the NBA.

Of course, the player being referred to here is none other than Zion Williamson.

In a recent Mock Draft on Sir Charles in Charge, FanSided’s general NBA fan site, by Michael Saenz, the Atlanta Hawks are the beneficiaries of tremendous luck on draft day by landing the #1 overall pick – and predictably taking Zion with said selection.

We have previously laid out numerous reasons why the Atlanta Hawks should draft Zion in the 2019 NBA Draft, and we’ve also expressed why he’s the best fit among Duke’s Big 3 for the roster.

A recent ESPN piece also agrees, and it seems like the tide is turning for Atlanta as a basketball town among the greater populace of NBA fandom. Whereas most fans would normally vouch for their own team, more and more people are looking at Zion’s skill set from an objective standpoint and saying: “You know what? Watching one of the most athletic players in years play alongside an incredible passer in Trae Young and a bouncy roll man like John Collins would be an absolute joy!”

Let’s hope the ping-pong balls agree come 2019 NBA Draft Lottery day. If so, Atlanta Hawks history will be forever altered.
