18. . Big. Boston Celtics (via Atlanta Hawks). Brandon Clarke. 10. player

Here’s where things start to get interesting in this 2019 NBA Draft mock-up.

After the Atlanta Hawks select at #8 overall, the team has the 10th overall pick obtained in the Doncic/Trae swap. Instead of using that pick, Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk will look to make a deal with the Celtics for two of their own 2019 NBA Draft picks (#14 & #22). In return, the Hawks give up #10, and one of their second-round picks (#41).

With the pick traded from the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics will be allowed to select one of the best players in the country last season: Brandon Clarke out of Gonzaga.

Clarke will indubitably not last until the 14th pick, which is where the C’s would be selecting, so moving up makes sense here in order for Boston to nab an amazing force on both ends to pair with the team’s young core.

In this hypothetical scenario, the Celtics strike out on obtaining Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving walks this summer. Though that might sound like a doom-and-gloom setup for Boston fans, take a peek at this young core:

C – Robert Williams (the beloved Time Lord)
PF – Brandon Clarke
SF – Jayson Tatum
SG – Jaylen Brown
PG – Terry Rozier (…?)

Of course, Rozier might also skedaddle in free agency this offseason, but not including the team’s current stable of veterans (Gordon Hayward, Al Horford, Aron Baynes, etc.), that is a highly interesting and upside-laden young unit to ponder going forward.
