2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 4.0, Atlanta Hawks Trade Down to Pick at 8, 14 & 22, Lakers Trade #4
By Chris Guest
In previous mock drafts, Rui Hachimura out of Gonzaga has fallen a few spots down into the middle of the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft.
In this iteration, Hachimura’s stock stays roughly the same, and the Charlotte Hornets nab the West Coast Conference Player of the Year with the 12th overall pick. After missing out on various picks over the past few seasons – including trading away All-Rookie Second Team member Shai Gilgeous-Alexander last year for Miles Bridges – Hachimura will be yet another high-variance selection for Michael Jordan and the Hornets in the late lottery.
The Hornets will likely be looking at an extremely tough season next year – unless Kemba Walker decides to sign a supermax contract with the team, which means they might eke into the playoffs or will be selecting in the late lottery once again next season.
For his part, Hachimura was one of the two best players on a Gonzaga squad that had the best offense in the country per KenPom last season, and Rui was a beast on the interior. Hachimura was one of the most prolific rim shooters in the country last year with 257 attempts and a 72 percent clip at the rim per Bart Torvik.
Only Zion had more attempts at a better clip in the 2018-19 season.
