2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 4.0, Atlanta Hawks Trade Down to Pick at 8, 14 & 22, Lakers Trade #4

Coby White of North Carolina produced a terrific freshman campaign that saw him catapulted into the conversation as being one of the best point guards in the 2019 NBA Draft class. Though the Atlanta Hawks don’t need a point guard, White has been seen linked to the team on multiple occasions – possibly due to the fact that White can work as an off-ball weapon alongside Trae Young.
However, in this case, the point guard-needy Phoenix Suns elect to take White 6th overall with Ja Morant off the board. Though Morant is obviously the best point guard prospect in the 2019 NBA Draft, White is an exceptional consolation prize.
Exceedingly fast in the open court, White provides a dynamism that the Suns just haven’t had at the point guard position unless Devin Booker mans the one spot. Even when he does, however, Booker often likes to take his time and get to his spots – as opposed to White who plays at a blistering, frenetic pace that would work well alongside Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and other interesting young players such as De’Anthony Melton, Elie Okobo and ostensibly T.J. Warren.
In his freshman campaign, White put forth excellent shooting splits of 50/35/80, which portent an all-around offensive game that would make White the “glue guy” at the point that Phoenix so desperately needs.
