Guard. Chicago Bulls. Darius Garland. 7. player. 24.

For the third year in a row, the Chicago Bulls will be selecting 7th overall. In the 2019 NBA Draft, with some of the team’s top options off the board, the Bulls are in the same boat that Phoenix is in: Looking desperately to add a point guard of the future.

Perhaps either Phoenix or Chicago will look to make that addition in free agency with players such as Terry Rozier or Malcolm Brogdon, but the safer bet is that the Bulls will continue to build organically through the draft by selecting Darius Garland out of Vanderbilt.

Though Vanderbilt is a trendy choice to go Top 5 (often at #4 to the Los Angeles Lakers) because in this mock draft scenario that pick is traded to the Pels, New Orleans opts for an immediately impactful defensive front line – leaving Garland to fall, happily for the Bulls, to Chicago.

A terrific shooter from almost anywhere on the court, Garland’s freshman campaign was cut supremely short due to injury, but he showed enough in high school and college to indicate his stock as a lottery pick should not have fallen very far.

With a young core of Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., Zach LaVine, Otto Porter and Darius Garland, the Bulls could be a sneaky choice for the lower tier of the Eastern Conference Playoffs next year – if that young core can stay healthy, of course.
