2019 NBA Draft: Why Brandon Clarke is a Perfect Atlanta Hawks Fit
Concerns
Clarke is a bit undersized for a post player, standing just 6’8″ and weighing 215 pounds. We’ve already covered his tremendous leaping ability, but to be a true 4 you’d like to see a couple more inches.
The potential fit, or lack thereof, alongside Collins could also be a deterrent for the Atlanta Hawks. A good career-arc scenario for Clarke is becoming another John Collins. Both are tremendous athletes with a great vertical leap and penchant for slamming the ball through the rim. However, how well would Clarke mesh with Collins?
Conclusion
After the Atlanta Hawks presumably take a wing with the #8 pick, projections have been all over the place for what they will do two selections later. I’ve seen a lot of Jaxson Hayes talk, but if Travis Schlenk decides to go the big man route, Clarke makes for the rare prospect that is on one hand solid and safe while still providing plenty of upside.
Clarke will be a good NBA player for a long time. Though probably never an All-Star, he would greatly contribute to the entertainment factor of a lineup featuring the dazzling Trae Young, the sweet-stroking Kevin Huerter, and the dunk-a-holic John Collins.
He’ll be gone by pick #17, so if the Atlanta Hawks are looking to pick him up, #10 would be the spot.
