One final though before the Atlanta Hawks undertake what will be a fateful 2019 NBA Draft.

Finally, the day is upon us Atlanta Hawks fans, the 2019 NBA Draft is a few mere hours away!

Though Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk has already been exceptionally busy, what with the Taurean Prince/Allen Crabbe trade and yesterday’s second-round swap with the Miami Heat, draft night proper will probably provide even more fireworks than anyone could have possibly imagined.

Certainly, the Hawks have multiple opportunities to move up, but for this writer, the priority would be to continue to move second-round selections for another first-round pick or draft and stash in the second round.

Having three picks at various points in the first round (#8, #10 and #17) will allow for the Hawks to make a variety of upside plays on players that might’ve fallen down draft boards for whatever reason.

Taking a quick gander at Tankathon’s excellent mock draft, the Atlanta Hawks would be able to obtain De’Andre Hunter at #8, Jaxson Hayes at #10 and a tremendous steal of potential lottery pick Brandon Clarke at #17 overall.

Though Clarke falling that far might be unlikely, wouldn’t it be best for the team to actually make that selection instead of packaging picks to move up in what has been widely deemed as a thin draft? More bites at the apple is always superior in scenarios such as this, so trading up – once and for all – is not the right choice for the Atlanta Hawks in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Because this is now on record, trading up is exactly what the Hawks will do – just as this writer’s pleadings for drafting Luka Doncic (and keeping him, mind you) in the 2018 draft fell on deaf ears.
