Our offseason grades series rolls on with the Atlanta Hawks signing undrafted rookie Charlie Brown to a Two-Way contract soon after the 2019 NBA Draft concluded.

The 2019 NBA Draft was an active one for the Atlanta Hawks, as it saw the team move up in both the first and second round, with the first-round selection being one of the biggest moves any team made on draft day.

The Hawks certainly gave up a tremendous haul in order to move up to #4 overall and select De’Andre Hunter, as they had to give up multiple picks while also taking on the dead salary of Solomon Hill from the Pelicans (who had obtained the pick from the Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade).

While the Hawks’ moves on draft day received a lot of attention, the team also made an under-the-radar move to fill one of their Two-Way spots on the team soon after the 2019 NBA Draft ended: Signing Charlie Brown of St. Joseph’s University following his sophomore campaign.

This move will get a bump in its grade simply due to this player’s name being one of the most beloved cartoon characters in history. Come on, who doesn’t love Peanuts? How recently have you seen A Charlie Brown Christmas? If the answer’s not “last Christmas,” well, the newest Atlanta Hawk might have an issue with you.

Digression aside, Brown will likely not play a huge role with the team next season due to the influx of young talent the team has, but Brown does play a position of need as a combo swingman who was named to the All-A-10 team in his sophomore season after averaging 19 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks in 35.6 minutes per game in his final season with the St. Joe’s Hawks.

Grade: B

Now that Brown will be donning a professional Hawks jersey, expect to see him in garbage time scenarios or in the G-League with the newly minted College Park Skyhawks.

While a few notable undrafted free agents were also available, Brown was certainly our radar here at Soaring Down South in the pre-draft process, so signing Brown to a Two-Way was a perfectly reasonable move following the 2019 NBA Draft.
