The annual rookie survey was unveiled by the NBA today and featured multiple new Atlanta Hawks sprinkled throughout.

The 2019 rookie survey, which is compiled on a yearly basis by NBA.com’s John Schuhmann, featured a variety of interesting answers and responses and also featured a couple of notable Atlanta Hawks rookies within its ranks.

Of course, last year’s rookie survey featured Trae Young as the most common answer to the questions of “best shooter” and “best playmaker” in the 2018 draft class.

This year featured two notable Hawks – Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter – ranked highly in some interesting categories.

The headlining question that both players featured in was “which rookie will have the best career?”

In a rather shocking turn of events, #10 overall pick Cam Reddish won that category with 19 percent of the vote and De’Andre Hunter was third with 11 percent of the vote. Ja Morant was second with 16 percent of the vote.

Stunningly, the #1 overall pick Zion Williamson was tied for 4th with only 5 percent of the vote, which begs the question, does the 2019 NBA Draft class know something we don’t? To see Cam Reddish, the third fiddle to Zion and R.J. Barrett at Duke, ranked so highly in this category makes one think that the rookie might surprise some people when the 2019-20 season rolls around.

De’Andre Hunter at third for that question makes sense, as he will likely play in the league for many years as a low-usage defender/shooter combo – which is always in high regard in the NBA.

Lastly, Hunter was also featured as an answer to the question “which rookie is the best defender?” Though Matisse Thybulle (SDS favorite) of the Philadelphia 76ers won the voting with a lofty 37 percent, Hunter was second at 29 percent. Bruno Fernando, in his only appearance on the survey, also received votes for this question.

So, what does this all mean? Well, in the long run… nothing at all. Since these questions are answered are answered by rookies, the only thing this confirms is that the Atlanta Hawks triumvirate of rooks is beloved by their peers – which has to count for something, right?
