#1. Trae Young

There was really only one choice for the best player on the Atlanta Hawks heading into the 2019-20.

Unsurprisingly, the player that was the best rookie over the course of the final four months of the season as well as the best rookie in Atlanta Hawks franchise history, Trae Young, is lined up as the best player on the team before the 2019-20 season begins.

Though Sports Illustrated believes Young to be 11 spots lower on the best player of 2019-20, to this writer, Young’s astonishing workload last season conveys an ability and willingness to help a lead a team’s offense on his own next year – though he should have three more helpful offensive rookies to help lighten the load in 2019-20.

Young was an offensive maestro in 2019-20, and if he can shoot better than 32.4 percent (his clip from last season), expect big things from the 21-year-old point guard.

Per Inpredictable, Young’s “kitchen sink” win probability added (which aggregates the various singular WPAs for each statistic) ranked 13th in the league at 26.37 ahead of players such as Joel Embiid, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and, yes, even Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic.

Of course, that number was buoyed by the second-highest assist WPA in the league of 20.79, behind only Russell Westbrook’s 24.17. Seeing as Young’s passing is one of his most notable skills, that makes perfect sense.

In an age of the NBA where perimeter creation is paramount, Trae Young’s ability to get a shot off for himself or for others no matter the defensive scheme he sees should be extremely impactful going forward. For that reason, expect him to be the best player on the Atlanta Hawks as the 2019-20 season begins.
