A quick look at the changing Rookie of the Year betting odds, which include notable Atlanta Hawks rookies, after Zion’s meniscus injury.

Following the tragic news of Zion Williamson’s torn meniscus, which will delay his debut by 6-8 weeks (if not more), a few notable Atlanta Hawks rookies have had their odds turn more favorable for winning Rookie of the Year.

Jeff Sherman of Sports Book USA posted the updated odds on Twitter:

As you can see, Atlanta Hawks rookies De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish are both featured, but not particularly highly on this list. Hunter’s odds come in at 40 to 1, and Reddish rounds out the odds with a 60 to 1 clip to win Rookie of the Year.

Hunter’s line in particular, should be fairly attractive to bettors, as he will certainly have plenty of opportunities with the Hawks, though he likely will not fill up the box score enough to get real credibility for his ROY case. Despite that, if the Hawks’ first game was any indication, it seems that the Hawks plan to feature plays for Hunter early in each half in order for him to get comfortable as Hunter attempted to create and score off the dribble early in the first and third quarter against the Pistons.

For Reddish, the 20-year-old rookie has been thrust into the starting role alongside his fellow rook Hunter due to the continued recuperation of Kevin Huerter after a lingering injury this offseason.

Though the former Duke Blue Devil only scored 1 point in the Hawks’ opening-night undressing of the Detroit Pistons, Reddish’s length and speed was important on the defensive end, and he was not shy about launching shots from deep – though he did finish 0 of 5 from downtown.

If Reddish is able to find his shooting stroke, and if Hunter is similarly able to put up enough raw production to get into the conversation, those early ROY odds on each could be looking mighty attractive by the end of the season.
