A quick check-in on Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young after he injured his ankle on Tuesday night against the Miami Heat.

The entire Atlanta Hawks fan base became extremely scared in the second quarter of Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Heat when Trae Young collided with Justise Winslow and went down hard due to an apparent ankle sprain.

Young exited the game immediately and had to be helped off the court as he walked, gingerly, to the locker room. The Hawks lost the game, but Young’s status was the far more pressing concern. The immediate news was that Young sprained his ankle (no break), and he would be out for two weeks.

Now, a day later, it seems that first prognosis was actual a bit too pessimistic, according to multiple reports:

As you can see, Young’s ankle improved considerably and the only game that is confirmed to miss is Thursday’s against the Miami Heat (again). According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Young would’ve likely even played on Thursday had his presence been more pressing.

Considering that it’s only the fifth game of the season, there is no reason for him to push his luck. Because the swelling went down, Young did not have to have an MRI on the ankle, which is another good sign that he will come back strong once he’s fully recovered.

Another lucky quirk of fate is that after the Heat game on Thursday, the Hawks have four straight days without a game, coming back on Tuesday, November 5, to face off against the San Antonio Spurs at home.

Hopefully, that will be plenty of time for the potential All-Star to get fully rested.

Also, because the Hawks are still getting their bearings as a unit this season, there is no reason to rush Young back, as his health long-term is the most important thing for the franchise right now.
