The Hawksdrop to 4-7 after losing to the Phoenix Suns Thursday Night by a score of 128-112.

Despite a hot start wherein the Atlanta Hawks jumped out to a 9 point lead, the rest of the night belonged to the Suns.

Big men Jabari Parker and Alex Len led the way in the losing effort, scoring 24 and 21, respectively. Len, against the team that drafted him 5th overall in 2013, added a team high 10 boards.

Trae Young had a quiet night by his recent standards, putting up 21 points, and still got it done in the passing department with 13 assists.

Kelly Oubre Jr. was the brightest star for Phoenix, scoring 30, while the ever-explosive Devin Booker supplemented that with 27.

The Hawks just couldn’t get out of their way in this one. They turned the ball over 22 times and committed a season-high 31 personal fouls. 10 of those fouls were offensive.

This allowed the Suns to get to the line a staggering 38 times, and they did fairly well for themselves there, making 81%. This, combined with the Suns shooting just under 50% from the field, made the 3rd quarter hole they fell into nearly impossible to get out of.

Box Score Notes

  • Great night For Damian Jones, who made 7 of 8 for 14 points, adding 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • Charlie Brown, Jr. clocked in for the 2nd time in his carrer. The undrafted rookie made his first ever 3-point attempt.
  • Allen Crabbe played 14 minutes in his Hawks debut, going 1-3 on the night.

Before the season started, if you looked at this current West Coast trip you would have thought this Suns match up would have been the gimme for the Hawks. But Phoenix has gotten off to a blazing start.

It really shows just how brutal this early season road trip was for the Hawks, who fall to 1-2 through the first three.
