The Hawks suffered another large defeat to a Los Angeles team, losing to the Lakers 122-101.

It was a game that was over almost before it began. The Lakers jumped out to a double digit lead  over the Atlanta Hawks in less than 4 minutes into the 1st quarter, and the lead swelled all the way to 25 at one point in the 1st period.

Both the offense and defense were atrocious early on, with both missed shots and a bevy of turnovers letting the Lakers get out and run against the Hawks’ shaky D. They turned the ball over 7 times leading to 16 fast break points the other way.

Allen Crabbe and Trae Young were able to start a small rally, going a 13-0 run to make things a little interesting. Another big run in the 3rd period kept things from getting totally out of hand, but the Hawks were still never really in it.

It wasn’t as bad as Saturday’s 49 point defeat at the hands of the Clippers, but the Lakers were just way too good – headlined by their otherworldly stars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The former had 33 points and 12 assists while the latter scored 14, blocking 5 Atlanta shots along the way.

Trae Young led Atlanta scorers with 31, his 6th 30+ scoring night on the season. The big highlight of the Hawks’ night however, was Evan Turner crossing LeBron up en route to a bucket:

Turner and Young, and perhaps Allen Crabbe have been the lone bright spots overall in this back-to-back in L.A, wherein the Hawks were outscored 272-202.

Box Score Notes:

  • Chandler Parsons clocked his first minutes as an Atlanta Hawk, but was unrepresented on the box score besides his 2 minutes played.
  • Season high 8 turnovers for Trae.

Next. What to expect from Chandler Parsons. dark

That mercifully ends the long, 5-game road trip the Hawks picked up just one win on. Hawks move to 4-9 overall, dropping 6 of their last 7.

They travel home and will be back at State Farm Arena to face coach Bud and the Milwaukee Bucks. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 Eastern.
