Recapping Bradon Goodwin’s big night for the Atlanta Hawks’ G-League squad, the Skyhawks.

Atlanta Hawks’ two-way guard Brandon Goodwin had a big game Friday night for the College Park Skyhawks, recording the first ever triple-double for the team in its first season.

Goodwin recorded 36 points on 11-16 shooting, 7-11 from three. He added 12 rebounds and an amazing 16 assists to complete the trip-dub.

Each of those were season-highs for Goodwin, who was signed by the Hawks back in August to a two-way deal.

So far, the two-way contract has been basically just one-way, with Goodwin suiting up for Atlanta just once this season. He averaged 3.6 minutes a game last year with the Nuggets as an undrafted rookie.

A local boy, he helped lead Norcross High School to a State Championship in 2013, winning the 6A player of the year along the way.

For College Park this season, Goodwin has averaged 19.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, shooting 44% from the field. He’s help lead the Skyhawks to an 8-6 record in the G-League, tied for 5th in the East.

For as much talk as there has been about Trae Young perhaps playing too much and not having a true back up, perhaps the Hawks should be calling Brandon Goodwin – a point guard – up to the pros more.

The Hawks used their two-way players a lot more last season, with Jaylen Adams and Alex Poythress combining to appear in 55 games for Atlanta.

Goodwin and his two-way comrade, Charlie Brown Jr., have appeared in just 5 for the Hawks this season, who have even had some injury issues.

For now, Goodwin should continue to have big games for the Skyhawks, who will play their next contest Tuesday, when the Windy City Bulls come to town.

Unless he gets the call up to Atlanta, Goodwin will be a part of the starting five no doubt.
