Recapping the Atlanta Hawks loss to the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday night.

The Atlanta Hawks fought hard but ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 101-96.

the home Hawks started and finished the 1st quarter hot, taking a quick lead and finishing the period with a 26-25 advantage.

The 2nd period was rough for Atlanta, but they were able to keep pace with an abundance of threes and the Lakers missing a handful of free throws. Despite shooting an ugly 34% from the field, the Hawks carried 48 points and a 7-point deficit into the half.

It was a lead the Lakers quickly lost, as the Hawks opened the 3rd period on a 7-0 scoring run. After the Lakers started to pull away a bit, the Hawks went on yet another 7-0 run. In total they outscored L.A 30-27 in the 3rd, taking a 82-78 game into the final 12.

The 4th was an extremely low scoring affair for both sides, with the Hawks and Lakers both scoring under 20.

Atlanta was in position to tie the game with just a few seconds left, but Cam Reddish missed a three and the Lakers held on to win.

Box Score Notes:

  • Trae Young scored 30, leading the Hawks easily. The next highest scorer was Jabari Parker with 12. Trae added 6 boards, 7 assists, and 2 steals
  • The Hawks were out-rebounded 56-42. The spectacular duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis both recorded 13 boards. No Hawk had more than Alex Len‘s 7.
  • Atlanta turned the ball over 19 times, but were surprisingly out-gunned in that catergory by Los Angeles’ 22. The latter was the season-high from the current 1st-seed in the West.

Ultimately, the Hawks just didn’t have enough to get past L.A’s stifling defense.

Atlanta drops to 6-21, now losing their 4th straight. The win was the Lakers’ 7th straight.

They’ll have a good shot to break that streak when they take on the Knicks in New York on Tuesday.

Tip is scheduled for 7:30 EST.
