Recapping the Atlanta Hawks’ match with the Utah Jazz on Thursday Night.

It was a back-and-forth affair between the Atlanta Hawks and the Utah Jazz Thursday night, 111-106.

Neither squad could pull away in a tight contest, that featured 22 lead changes. The winning team’s biggest lead of the night was just six.

Donovan Mitchell‘s two free throws with 13 seconds left put the game away from Utah, improving their record to 17-11, dropping the Hawks’ to 6-23.

The young Hawks managed just 22 in the 4th period.

Speaking of the youth, Lloyd Pierce elected to start three rookies and two sophomores, creating the 4th youngest starting five in NBA history. Although DeAndre’ Bembry checked in for De’Andre Hunter less than a minute into the game.

They really didn’t do too bad for themselves, and Cam Reddish especially had himself a good night on both ends of the court.

Trae Young got to what seems to be his nightly-30, scoring exactly 30 on 9/28 shooting. He added 8 assists and a steal. He once again showed off his step-back, which is becoming more and more lethal to opponents.

Jabari Parker had a much more efficient scoring night off the bench, putting up 23 in 23 minutes of play. He was also the team’s leader in rebounds, grabbing nine.

As a team however, the Hawks were out-rebounded again. This has been a struggle all season, and starting a new center in Bruno Fernando didn’t seem to make any change. The rookie finished with just six boards and was relatively dominated by Rudy Gobert all night.

Stray Notes:

  • Alex Len fouled out in just 16 minutes of play, adding three turnovers.
  • Damian Jones (who had been starting), Vince Carter, and Chandler Parsons all recieved DNP’s.
  • Kevin Huerter matched his season-high with 17.

In what is becoming quite the Atlanta Hawk tradition, they kept things close against a better team, but were eventually over-powered late.

The three-rookie lineup had it’s moment, but it’s just so clear they need a more dominant force in the paint.

The Hawks will avoid to making it seven straight losses when they take on the Brooklyn Nets Saturday night.

It will be their final game without John Collins, hallelujah.
