Starting Five Grades

In by no means Trae Young’s most efficient night, the guard still put up 28 points albeit on 23 shot attempts. Young had to go back to being the lone star on the court after Collins left, and recorded a +/- of positive four, with three other starters in the negatives and Cam Reddish hitting a +1. Trae does get bonus points for playing with high defensive energy, one of his best showings on that side of the floor all season. He added 10 assists and 5 rebounds, but did turn the ball over 6 times.. PG. Atlanta Hawks. TRAE YOUNG. A-

It’s been an up-and-down season for Huerter, and that trend continued in Boston tonight. Like Young, he wasn’t particularly effective, taking 17 shots and making 7, but seemed to make them when it counted most, especially from deep. Huerter tied his season high with 7 boards, and filled out the rest of the stat sheet with 5 assists, a steal and a block. SG. Atlanta Hawks. KEVIN HUERTER. B

D+. Technically starting at power forward, Reddish played 24 minutes and attempted 6 shots, making one. Two of them missed badly, much to the Boston home faithful’s delight. He continues to play pretty solid defense, and he blocked two shots on the night, but was one of the worst, if not the worst, offensive players on the court tonight.. F. Atlanta Hawks. CAM REDDISH

Hunter had an efficient, if not quiet night offensively, but was the Hawks’ MVP on defense. He didn’t stuff the stat sheet with blocks or steals or anything, but consistently made high IQ, veteran style plays on D, including good angles, quick hands and shifty feet. It’s that kind of play that shows his potential as a defensive star, and being worth the top four pick the Hawks spent on him. He finished with 11 points on 8 shots in 26 minutes of play.. F. Atlanta Hawks. DE'ANDRE HUNTER. B

Collins started at Center as the Hawks turned to small ball, and played probably his best half of the season in the first. He of course left with the back injury, which is very unfortunate for both him and the team. We’re grading him for what he did do on the court tonight, finishing with 16 points, 8 rebounds and an steal in just 22 minutes of work. I’ll try and come back to edit this if there is any update on Collins’ injury after the game.. PF. Atlanta Hawks. JOHN COLLINS. A
