3. Trae and Kev look like the rookie duo we saw last year

Trae Young has expounded on his more-than-solid rookie season in a huge way, a way that is currently in line to have him in the All-Star game.

He’s looked better in nearly every aspect of his game, and is truly a more polished version of the young star we saw last season.

Kevin Huerter however, has failed to match his sophomore teammate’s development.

In a lot of ways, Huerter has looked worse this year, although he’s putting up pretty similar numbers. A guess that’s out of expectations, as fans didn’t know what to expect out of the 19th overall pick a year ago, and were expecting him to be the Hawks’ 3rd best player right out the gate this season.

A trio of injuries sprang Huerter on, off, on and off again this season, not really finding his groove until recently.

He’s been on a nice streak recently, scoring 19 in Orlando, then 17 in Boston, before breaking out with a 26 point night on Saturday.

Huerter looked like his rookie self, both catching and firing and making his own looks, and filled out the box score with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Trae and Huerter were such a dynamic rookie duo a season ago that they both made the NBA’s All-Rookie team (Young 1st team, Huerter 2nd), and prompted one of the league’s best duo nicknames: Fire and Ice.

The Fire and Ice moniker was one I had forgotten about because it had been so long that the two had starred together, and it really felt nice to have Huerter’s Red Velvet back with Young’s Ice Trae.

Trae is well on his way to being an All-Star, and looks like he’s going to be consistently great moving forward, if Huerter can stay consistent at this level, the two will be a backcourt force like we saw last season, for years to come
