Andre Drummond

While Andre Drummond is the best player the Atlanta Hawks have been rumored to be interested in, he might not be the best fit.

Drummond will more than likely be traded by the Detroit Pistons before the deadline. The team has all but given hope on their season, as their record is abysmal and their best player, Blake Griffin, opted to have season ending surgery.

The team already has a solid young core of Luke Kennard, Sekou Doumbouya, Bruce Brown, and Christian Wood, and they would understandably like to add more young talent or draft picks.

While it has been reported that no teams have offered the Pistons a first round pick in return for Drummond, this is a fair trade. The Hawks are being smart about it though, because as the deadline approaches, the Pistons will be pressured to make a move and will take whatever they can get.

Drummond would be a huge difference maker for the Hawks, but there are different candidates to fill the Hawks’ center vacancy that are a better fit (view next slide).

Drummond would by no means be a bad pick up, and if the Pistons are willing to take less than what is in the mock trade above, the Hawks should pull the trigger. Drummond is the best rebounder in the NBA and can contribute scoring and some playmaking from the post. Ideally though, the center the Hawks trade for would be an elite defender.

The team has recently been reported to no longer be in talks for Drummond, but it’s not impossible for that to change as the deadline approaches.
