Atlanta Hawks Lose 136-103 to Detroit: Reactions
By Dallin Duffy
Recapping the Atlanta Hawks’ Saturday night defeat to the Pistons.
Just a night after a thrilling win in San Antonio, the Atlanta Hawks returned home to play some weekend ball against the Detroit Pistons.
The visiting Pistons came out shooting lights out, making 71% of their 1st quarter shots. Detroit outscored Atlanta 36-29 in the period.
Trae Young and John Collins combined for 13 to keep the Hawks in it, and Jeff Teague made a wild three to help ignite his homecoming.
The second quarter was pretty ugly, with the Pistons’ 2nd unit running their lead up to 17 on the Hawks’ 1st team. For a few minutes it seemed like Atlanta couldn’t buy a bucket, and those inside floaters that are usually money, just weren’t falling.
The Pistons kept their hot shooting going, finishing with 71 first half points on an impressive 63% from the field. They took a 71-55 lead into the halftime locker room.
Things got worse before they got better, for Atlanta – in fact, things never really got better. The Hawks managed just 21 3rd quarter points. The Pistons were nice enough to keep their lead under 30 however.
Detroit was not as kind In the 4th, growing the lead to 36, one of the Hawks’ biggest deficits on the season.
They pulled back into a bit in garbage time, eventually losing 136-103.
Box Score Notes:
- John Collins lead Atlanta in scoring with 20 points on 16 shots.
- Trae Young was the Hawks’ leading rebounder, finishing with 8 boards. He added 16 points and 7 assists.
- Jeff Teague returned to Atlanta with 15 points on 6-9 shooting, moving the ball for 7 assists as well. Treveon Graham, who was included in the trade with him, made his Hawks debut with 5 points in 12 minutes.
- The Hawks were outrebounded 41-32, with once rumored trade target Andre Drummond grabbing 17 off the glass.
Overall it was an ugly loss, disappointing after the Hawks looked to find some rhythm with 2 straight victories.
The loss pushes Atlanta’s record to 10-33. They’ll next play on Monday afternoon against the Raptors in Atlanta.
