1. Brandon Goodwin Should Stick Around

Earlier this week, I wrote on Goodwin’s chances of staying in the rotation after the team acquired a third point guard in Jeff Teague.

He’d clocked just six minutes total in the previous two games combined, looking closer to the end of the bench than almost on the team.

Tonight, Lloyd Pierce turned to him in the 4th quarter, despite not scoring in the previous three, and even with Teague having a pretty good night moving the ball. Obviously Goodwin delivered, a major reason the Hawks won the contest.

Moving forward, it’s pretty evident that Goodwin should still be getting some minutes. A healthy Trae Young is still going to net 35-40 minutes a night, and Jeff Teague will likely continue to get minutes in the mid-teens range.

Lloyd Pierce will have to do some gymnastics with his rotation table, but he really should to try and keep Goodwin’s name on there.

It might come down to Teague and Goodwin taking turns as Trae’s backup, the other playing just a few minutes, or they’ll have to play together in some fashion.

Definitely something to keep an eye on as the season moves on.
