3 Takeaways From the Atlanta Hawks’ Comeback Win Over Clips
By Dallin Duffy
2. De’Andre Hunter‘s whiff, redemption
With Trae Young out, and John Collins the only other real star on the team, it was a prime opportunity for one of the young guys to break out. It ended up being Goodwin, but De’Andre Hunter certainly gave it a try.
Hunter, whose been knocked for his passive play at times, attempted 16 shots on the night, the third highest of his career.
He made three.
He continued to take shots despite never really looking confident taking them, especially from beyond the arc, where he missed his first five attempts.
The sixth and final attempt from three ended up redeeming Hunter’s night, as he hit a crucial corner three to extend the Hawks’ lead to six with 1:43 left.
Still, taking away that one shot, Hunter was 2-15 from the field, 0/5 from three. He also finished with a +/- of -2, every other starter posted at least a +8.
On one hand it’s nice that Hunter’s trying to shoot out of his rookie struggles, but obviously this kind of night just isn’t ideal, especially coming off some good performances by the 4th overall pick.
The defense is still there, which is always nice, but he still needs to find his shot and overall confidence offensively.
