Reacting the the news that the Atlanta Hawks’ point guard will starting the 2020 All-Star game.
The NBA offically unveiled the NBA All-Star starters on Thursday, among which was Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young.
Trae joins Kemba Walker, Pascal Siakam, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo as starterswi representing the Eastern Conference . Giannis will serve as captain, along with LeBron James.
The selection comes after a terrific first half for Trae Young, who’s averaged 29.2 points (3rd in the NBA), 8.6 assists (4th) and 4.7 rebounds per game on 44% shooting.
He’s the first member of the Atlanta Hawks to make the roster since Paul Millsap in 2017, and the first Hawks point guard since Jeff Teague in 2015.
More notably, he’s the first Hawk since Dikembe Mutombo to start an All-Star game. Mutombo was voted a starter in the 1998 season.

The above voting breakout down shows that Trae came in 1st in the fan vote, 3rd in the player vote and 2nd in the media vote. He came in first slightly above fellow starter Kemba Walker, and the only real competition to take his starting spot was Kyrie Irving, who finished with a weighted score of 4.0 compared to Trae’s 1.75 and Kemba’s 2.0.
Next up, the reserves (who will almost certainly feature no Hawks) will be announced next Thursday. The Draft, which will see LeBron and Giannis alternate picks for their team, will go down on February 6th.
Trae will be taking the floor as a starter for either team Bron or team Giannis on February 16th in Chicago.
Earlier this month, it was rumored that Young was also set to compete in the Rising Stars Game, Skills Challenge and 3-Point Shootout, although that has not yet been confirmed. Young is set to have a very busy All-Star “break”, and should represent the Atlanta Hawks very well in Chi-town.
As for his current injury, he’ll be questionable to return tomorrow in Oklahoma City.
