Previewing the month of February for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks improved in January after a rough start to the season, winning six games compared to three in December and two in November. They’ll look to keep that rolling in the All-Star-shortened February.

The schedule:

  • Saturday, Feb. 1st – @ Dallas
  • Monday, Feb. 3rd – v. Boston
  • Wednesday, Feb. 5th – @ Minnesota
  • Friday, Feb. 7th – @ Boston
  • Sunday, Feb. 9th – v New York
  • Monday, Feb. 10th – @ Orlando
  • Wednesday, Feb. 12th – @ Cleveland
  • All-Star Break – Feb 13th-19th
  • Thursday, Feb. 20th – v Miami
  • Saturday, February 22nd – v Dallas
  • Monday, February 24th – @ Philadelphia
  • Wednesday, February 26th – v Orlando
  • Friday, February 28th – v Brooklyn
  • Saturday, February 29th – v Portland

Key takeaways:

  • 5 of first 7 on the road is a tough beat, but the Hawks have a pretty similar home/away record so it may not even matter.
  • Not one, but two meetings with Dallas, meaning we get our first Luka v. Trae since December of last season. If the two are drafted on separate All-Star teams, there could be four match ups, including the Rising Stars game. It’s worth noting that Doncic is currently dealing with an injury that could cost him some games, even the first Hawks game. Update: Doncic is currently set to miss six games with an ankle inury. That’ll miss him the 2/1 Hawks game but should have him back for All-Star weekend.
  • Leap Year Day game!
  • Two back-to-backs, one on the 9th/10th and the other on 28th/29th. They only play two less games than in January despite the six-day All-Star break.
  • Jeff Teague revenge game in Minny on the 5th.
  • They play both the Knicks and Cavs, who are tied with the Hawks for the Eastern Conference’s worst record at the time of this writing. Hawks have a chance to pull into 13th place (!).
  • Excluding the All-Star break, Atlanta has just one break between games longer than one day.

It’s a pretty balanced schedule that sees the Hawks playing good, mediocre and bad teams pretty equally. They do play teams in the playoff picture in three of their first four however.

Next. Will Cam Reddish win Rookie of the Month for January?. dark

The Hawks ended January winning five of their last nine and will look to carry that momentum past the halfway mark into February. Who knows, maybe even make a dramatic run for the eight seed. They are only 10 games back and stranger things have happened.
