#1 – Record a Triple-Double
It may seem like a tall task for the 6’1 guard to get a triple-double, but would the best way to improve on his double-double from last year. Young has just three career triple-doubles, but the RS Game is no routine regular season contest.
It’s high-scoring (Team USA scored 161 last year) with a lot of shots thrown up early in the shot clock. There’s just more rebounds to go around, and Trae should be getting more than enough minutes to pull down at least ten.
He grabbed seven of the team’s 51 boards a year ago, although no one player grabbed more than ten. No one has ever record a trip-dub in the Rising Stars Game, giving Young the chance to make history in his final appearance in the game.
He’ll probably need a little luck with bounces out to the the back court, but its not like the USA roster is stacked with height either. Jaren Jackson Jr. is the only true center on the roster, with Zion and P.J Washington providing the lone other frontcourt support.
We’ve said all this about getting ten rebounds like it’s a certainty he’ll be getting ten points and ten assists, which of course not a guarantee. Scoring and passing are the best two aspects of his game, and should translate, but as mentioned in the opener, there’s no certainity he palys starter’s minutes to kick off his busy All-Star Weekend.
Getting the triple-double is a fun goal for Young to shoot for on Friday.
