Goran Dragic is set to hit the open market, and with the Heat likely looking to spend that money on yet another big free agent, they’ll like to find a cheap replacement to back up Kendrick Nunn.
Jones fits the bill, the best true point guard left on the board. The Duke sophomore has stepped into a bigger role effortlessly, and his numbers are up across the board.
His 6.5 assists per game looks awfully pretty next to his 2.6 turnovers per game, and he could run a second team from the moment he’s drafted. A 6’2 frame like the one Jones carries usually would mean he would be bullied defensively in the NBA, but he’s been a fantastic perimeter defender in Durham.
When he’s in the league and has the ball in his hands less, the 33 percent three-point average could hurt more than it does now, and his true shooting percentage of 52% isn’t something that’ll translate well.
Still, Jones brings a lot to the table, and could be a nice, cheap rotation player for Miami’s next run at the Finals.
