Taking a look at the Atlanta Hawks’ success at home of late.

For the most part, the Atlanta Hawks have had a season to forget. They remain near the bottom of the standings despite playing well of late. A stretch from November through December that saw them lose 21 of 23 games has been way too much to overcome.

Since the calendar has flipped to 2020, the Hawks are a near .500 team, going 12-16. When playing in Atlanta, they’ve been way better, and among the best the best home teams this year.

They’ve won five of their last six at State Farm Arena, going 10-6 there overall. The only other teams to have more wins than the Hawks are the 76ers, Bucks and Clippers, who are all set for top seeds in the playoffs.

Nobody has scored more than the Hawks’ 1,995 home points, and the next closest is Washington with just 1,811. Their 37 percent clip from three is 12th in the league and their offensive rating of 116.3 is third.

Trae Young has especially been efficient at home, leading the Eastern Conference in points per game with 35.4 since January 1st. John Collins made nearly 50 percent of his threes in that time, and De’Andre Hunter leads the team with a net plus/minus of +5.8.

The Hawks just play much better at home, especially of late.

In that same time period, Atlanta is 2-10 on the road, the second worst winning record in the league. While they’re defense at home has still been more passable than flat out good, the road Hawks struggle to defend at all. Only the Spurs and Wizards have a worse defensive rating on the road in 2020.

The Hawks’ final 20 games are split perfectly, with 10 at home and 10 on the road. While it is fun to watch the Hawks ball out at home, getting their feet under themselves away from the ATL is a good goal. Atlanta is nearly eliminated from playoff contender (So you’re saying there’s a chance?) and improving on their downfalls before next season should be the priority.
