#2 – January 22nd v Clippers
In a weird matchup between two injured teams, the Paul George and Kawhi Leonard-less Clips squared off with the Trae Young-less Hawks. Someone was going to have to step up for their team, and it ended up being John Collins.
The Hawks erased a deficit and came back to defeat L.A thanks to a great performance by Brandon Goodwin and Collins, the latter of which scored 33 points, just two off his career-high.
He attempted 22 shots without Trae, the second-most in his career. His usage rate in the game was 25 percent, much higher than his 22 percent season average. Collins recorded a team-best plus/minus of +24, adding 16 rebounds to go along with the points.
Collins was a difference-maker on the boards and came away with seven offensive rebounds which still holds as his season-best. Lovers of advanced stats would likely declare this as Collins’ best game, and with a box plus/minus of 22.5, you can’t blame them.
