Atlanta Hawks: 3 most likely candidates to become the teams third star
By Nate Friesen
Assuming Trae Young and John Collins are capable of carrying the load as the first and second options, who will be the third star for the Atlanta Hawks?
The Atlanta Hawks are in a good position to be a competitive team in the near future. With Trae Young and John Collins being potential building blocks, it raises the question as to who will be the third star behind them. The Hawks have a lot of young players on their roster but are any of them primed to become the team’s third option? So today I’m going to be taking a look at the most likely candidates to become the much needed third option for the Atlanta Hawks.
For the sake of simplicity, I’ll only be considering players that are currently on the roster. The more likely scenario is that the Hawks land a third star via the draft or free agency, however, considering the age of their roster their future third star could already be on the team.
The Hawks were somewhat of a disappointment this season, considering how great Trae Young was individually, I believe most Hawks fans hoped for a little more team success. However, the Hawks have a bit of an excuse considering their second-best player in John Collins was suspended for 25-games at the beginning of the season.
However, assuming the Hawks have a similar roster next season and no one misses a large chunk of time, the Hawks should be expected to make a legitimate push for the playoffs. This playoff push will certainly be made easier if a third star emerges for this team and is able to complement the teams existing stars in Young and Collins. Let’s hope the team is able to find that third option sooner than later.
