With the remainder of the NBA season in question, it’s time to start looking at free agency. Here are three free-agents that could help the Atlanta Hawks.
Considering the lack of big-name free agents this summer, it would be wise for the Atlanta Hawks to continue to hang onto their cap space for the summer of 2021. Thus, the Hawks should try and target some veteran three and D wings that could help them make a playoff push next season. There are a lot of players coming off big 2016 contracts this summer that could potentially fit the bill for the Hawks.
The top free-agents in this class include the likes of Gordon Hayward, DeMar DeRozan and Andre Drummond. All of which either don’t fit the Hawks timeline or their current roster construction. The Hawks would be better served to find a free-agent wing that pairs with their timeline and it doesn’t appear that player will be there this summer.
The Hawks were dead last in the league in three-point percentage as a team at 33.3 percent and they also had the third-worst defensive rating in the league at 114.4, per NBA.com. The addition of Clint Capela will certainly help in terms of interior defense but he won’t do much in terms of addressing the Hawks poor perimeter defense or three-point shooting.
There is certainly a limited number of players in the league that are able to address both issues simultaneously, however, with the Hawks a massive amount of cap space. They’ll have the ability to offer big one-year deals to elite three and D veterans or separate guys that can offer one or the other. Let’s take a look at three of the guys that could help fill these roles.
