Super Tournament

By far, the most beneficial idea for the Atlanta Hawks and in my opinion the most exciting idea was suggested by Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie in a thread of tweets on Twitter.

In this scenario, Dinwiddie is proposing the NBA go directly into a ‘March Madness’ style tournament.

He proposes that the worst four teams in the league, currently the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Atlanta Hawks have a single play-in best of three series for the last two seeds in the tournament.

Additionally, the top four teams in the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors and LA Clippers would each get a first-round bye.

Finally, the first round with seeds 5 through 28 would each play a five-game series. The winners of those series would then move onto what would then essentially be the playoffs, the best 16 teams playing in 7-game series until a champion is named in the final round.

While this idea doesn’t consider how the draft would be determined, it would give the Hawks some really fun and exciting playoff-type games. It would also, presumably, still give them a good pick in the draft regardless of how far they make it in the tournament.

Not only would this idea be beneficial for the Hawks, but it would also be incredibly exciting to watch for fans of all teams. Good job Spencer, let’s hope this idea comes to fruition.
