Scouting Report. SG, Kentucky. 15. 38. Pick Analysis. Orlando Magic. Tyrese Maxey. player

Maxey had an up-and-down season, showing real flash as an offensive threat. He gets to the rim in a hurry and while his finishing could use some polishing, projects to be a talented slasher. The Magic roster is an interesting mix of sturdy veterans and young talent and could use more players who can get their own shot.

Maxey is less qualified from deep, making just 29 percent of his threes as a freshman. At 6’3, he’s undersized for a two-guard and would need to make significant strides in his ball-handling and play-making to ever slide down to the one.

He relies on his intensity and motor on the other end of the court, lacking natural defensive tools. That doesn’t make him a great fit in Steve Clifford’s defensive-minded coaching scheme, but the upside of an elite scorer is enough for Orlando to roll the dice on Maxey.
