Trae Young as Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris)

This comparison seems like a no-brainer. Trae Young is the single reason why the Atlanta Hawks have any sort of success (even if the success so far is minimal). This is similar to Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother because Barney was easily the most captivating character on the show.

The Atlanta Hawks draw up play after play to get Trae the best shot possible. They designed their entire offense to make Trae the best player he can be. Similarly, the writers of How I Met Your Mother were constantly writing the show to make Barney Stinson the funniest, best character he could be. And both Trae and Barney were wildly successful individually.

While Trae Young has had incredible success individually, the Atlanta Hawks have struggled so far in Trae’s young career. And while How I Met Your Mother was a successful show, it was nothing compared to similar sitcoms such as FRIENDS, The Office or Seinfeld.

Finally, Barney Stinson is an innovator in the way he uses elaborate plans to pick up women. This is not dissimilar to how Trae Young is an innovator on the basketball court with his ability to consistently shoot from 40-feet or nutmeg a defender.
