Atlanta Hawks: 5 players for Cam Reddish to study during suspended play
By Nate Friesen
3. Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler is the type of guy that Cam Reddish should be looking to on the defensive side of the ball. Unlike Andrew Wiggins and Bradley Beal who are good offensive role models for Reddish, Butler is one of the best defenders in the NBA and Cam could learn a lot from him.
Butler has been an All-Star five times in his career and it’s due to not only his ability to score 20+ points per game but also because of his defense. Jimmy Butler is guarding the opposing teams best player every single night and racked up 1.7 steals per game (sixth in the NBA) for the Miami Heat this season.
While Reddish has obviously started off his career on the right foot defensively, he could still learn a lot from a savvy veteran defender like Jimmy Butler. The guys who make All-Star teams as defense-first players are few and far between and I’m not saying Cam Reddish will be one of them, but why not learn defense from one of them.
It’s also not just Butlers defense, his ability as a leader is something Reddish could learn from. Cam seems to be more of a quiet and reserved guy, so leading by example, something Jimmy often does, is something Cam Reddish could add to help his team.
