The Atlanta Hawks seem to have hit on some of their more recent picks. But let’s look at the Hawks biggest steals in team history.
The Atlanta Hawks, like most NBA teams, have had their fair share of hits and misses in the NBA draft throughout the years. A lot of their most recent draft picks have, so far, been hits, but the majority of these picks have been atop the draft due to the fact that they have been a bad team for quite a while now.
They’ve certainly drafted some valuable role players late in the draft as well recently, such as Kevin Huerter at 19 and DeAndre’ Bembry at 21. However, today we’re looking at the biggest steals in team history. Hall of Famers, multiple time All-Stars and/or future All-Stars that were drafted much lower than they should have been.
Some of the most notable steals in NBA history include Stephen Curry at 7, Giannis Antetokounmpo at 15, Nikola Jokic at 41 and Isaiah Thomas at 60. But today we’re only looking at the Atlanta Hawks. While they may not have drafted a Hall of Famer in the second round, they’ve definitely found value late in the draft.
Although a steal might not necessarily be late in the draft either. A steal can be in the top five if the players taken ahead of him didn’t measure up. There is so much subjectivity with the term ‘steal’ but what it essentially boils down to is that all four of these players absolutely should have been taken higher than they were.
All that being said, let’s get started with the fourth-biggest steal in Atlanta Hawks draft history.
