Due to the number of players on the Atlanta Hawks with rookie-scale deals, the team’s cap situation is great. Let’s look at the best contracts on the team.

Spotrac releases best value rankings every season and this season there were only two players with a perfect 100/100 true value score. The two most valuable contracts in the NBA, according to Spotrac’s value rankings, are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently in the third year of a four year $100M contract that he signed back in 2016. Whereas, Luka Doncic is currently in the second year of his initial rookie-scale contract which is set to pay him a total of $18M over the next two seasons.

These contracts are obviously extreme when it comes to valued contracts in the NBA. However, the Atlanta Hawks actually have some really valuable contracts themselves. In fact, the Atlanta Hawks are owners of two of the top eight contracts in the NBA according to Spotrac’s 2019 value rankings.

This is a really encouraging sign for the Hawks. It will give them flexibility for the next few years so they can surround their young core with elite role players. If Trae Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter all continue to develop as expected or better, the cap flexibility received by having so many good players on rookie contracts will be immense.

If the Atlanta Hawks use this flexibility to add veteran talent, they can really maximize this young core and could really have a chance at winning it all in the next three or four seasons. Obviously, this is all dependent on how much the young guys develop, but it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

Let’s take a look at the three most valuable contracts on the Atlanta Hawks.
