Atlanta Hawks: 3 best value contracts on the team
By Nate Friesen
1. Trae Young
Trae Young is by far the most valuable Atlanta Hawk according to Spotrac’s true value score. Young has a true value score of 99.99 which is near perfect. He’s actually the second most valuable contract among all guards and third most valuable in the entire NBA behind just Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo which is super impressive.
Young was obviously drafted 5th overall in 2018 so he is also still on his rookie-scale contract, similar to many of his Atlanta Hawks teammates. This season Young made just $6.2M which is a lot higher than John Collins and Kevin Huerter which shows just how valuable Trae’s on-court production really is.
This season Trae Young averaged some absolutely insane numbers including 29.6 points (tied for 3rd in the NBA), 9.3 assists (2nd in the NBA) and 1.1 steals per game with shooting splits of .437/.361/.860. Like I said, insane numbers. Considering it’s just Young’s second NBA season, it’s going to be scary to see how good he can get.
If Trae Young continues to improve a long with his other young teammates, the value of their contracts will be an integral part of the Hawks potential success. Similar to the fortune the Golden State Warriors experienced over the last few years due to Stephen Curry’s valuable contract, the Hawks could potentially capitalize in a similar way.
