The NBA 2K League is set to begin on May 5th and the Hawks Talon Gaming Club’s opening matchup has been set. Let’s take a look at who they face.

The Hawks Talon Gaming Club season opener will unfold on Tuesday, May 5 with the team remotely matching up against Mavs Gaming, the official 2KL affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. Tip-off is set for 7 pm and all can be streamed on the official 2KL Youtube and Twitch account.

“We’ve been looking forward to this moment…getting back out there and competing.” Head Coach of the Hawks Talon GC Wesley Acuff said.

The Hawks finished their inaugural 2019 season with a  5-11 record, however, the club is entering their second season with a fresh roster and attitude. Last year’s team MVP, MrStylez, was the only player retained by the Hawks. The former point guard will transition to the block or 2-guard position to make room for the team’s new ball-dominant point guard, BP.

BP was the 2K Leagues 2019 MVP runner-up and was acquired by the Hawks from Kings Guard Gaming during this past offseason. The Hawks finished off their rebuilding by drafting a defensive threat in the duo of followTHEGOD and Lee, a sharp-shooter in Kel, and a projected six-man in Arkele.

“I am happy with everything. I feel like our organization as a whole are all happy with the team that we built…Just looking forward to watching them go out there and hopefully get us a bunch of wins this season.” Acuff said.

We got a glimpse of the chemistry between the new teammate’s BP, Kel, and followTHEGOD during the 2K Leagues 3 for All Showdown last month. The trio faced off against Knicks Gaming and Wizards District Gaming during the exhibition tournament.

“We got some wins but we have had a few losses…I think all in all we have learned. We’ve learned how to play together, learned how to create some chemistry so as long as they go out there and they’re having fun I think we have made steps in the right direction.”  Acuff said.

At least six weeks of games will be played remotely in the team’s home market instead of the originally planned studio in Manhattan. As we anticipate the opportunity to watch live in the Big Apple, we can still appreciate some of the bright sides to the self-isolation games.

“The crowd can get pretty loud when we’re in New York. It’s not a lot of Atlanta fans in New York obviously. So the benefit we have right now is that nobody’s crowd is louder than anything for us right now. We’re just sitting in the room alone and can kind of focus and lock in and play. I would say that would help a little bit. Because sometimes you know…the atmosphere itself can be a little overwhelming. That’s the plus right now. Everyone should be pretty comfortable, no distractions.” Acuff said.

Each match-up will be played in a best of three series, with each series win counting as a regular-season win. The Hawks first six weeks of matchups can be found here.
