Recapping the Hawks’ Gaming Club’s recent victory.

Thursday night began with a jaw-dropping presentation of the T-Wolves 2019 Championship personalized, diamond-encrusted rings. However, after the competition virtually tipped off, all of the attention was earned by the Hawks as they put on a dominant display throughout the series.

The team looked like a completely different unit compared to series one, sharing the ball effectively, getting everyone involved, and dishing 36 collective assists between the two contests in the best-of-three series. The Hawks defeated the defending champions 82-52 in game one and finished the sweep 78-62 in game two.

“We spent most of our time after the loss against the Mavs focusing on being more aggressive and getting more of the team involved. We know a lot rides on BP’s performance but we wanted to not lose sight of the teamwork and getting everyone else involved in the process.” Said  Head Coach of the Hawks Talon GC Wesley Acuff.

The team’s rookie center, Lee, posted a 15 point,18 rebound double-double in game one that was definitely felt by the T-Wolves as he single-handedly out-rebounded their entire team.

“Lee is just out there playing his game and that’s all I wanted Lee to do. As a unit, we know that the big man right now is dominating and the teams are having success behind that. The good thing about Lee is that he isn’t worried about stat chasing. He’s not concerned about the double-doubles, it just kind of comes with good gameplay…that’s what he’s worried about doing, whatever helps us win.” Acuff stated.

The Hawk’s forward, MrStylez, who is new in this position after transitioning from PG last season, began to find his rhythm on the sticks as well. After a quiet series one against the Mavs, he put up 12 points and nine rebounds against the T-Wolves in the first game of the series. He also completed a clutch floater towards the buzzer of the first half to extend the Hawks lead.

“The thing about Stylez is he definitely studies the game so once he knew he was coming in at a different position this year he locked in on that position and tried to find ways to be successful for the team in that position. He’s a really selfless player.”

BP, followTHEGOD, and Kel took control in game two, all scoring in the high double digits and carrying the momentum over from game one. BP, who had 37 points in game one, finished with 25 points and 11 assists in the second go around.

“He included everyone else and they really stepped up. All the guys stepped up. Lee was dominant on the boards, also putting some points on the boards. Follow was lights out shooting from the corners, Stylez was making big shots from the corner as well as hitting the glass and getting a ton of rebounds for us. And then Kel. He didn’t get a lot of shots in game one but the thing that was invaluable about that was he was still checked into the game…and then in game two, he had an outburst. We approached it a different way because we didn’t want to do the same thing we did in game one. A lot of that rides on the offense that BP creates.” Acuff said.

The Hawks are now carrying a 1-1 record and will be taking on Grizz gaming on Weds, May 13. Wesley Acuff is confident in what the team will pull together in the series.

“It’s about repetition for us. We need to practice the same way that we played in those two games against the T-Wolves.” He said.
