NBA Mock Draft 4.0 — Warriors Take Wiseman First, Hawks grab LaMelo
By Dallin Duffy
The Mavs have a fun roster full of both established and upcoming stars, and could some depth as they look to rise in the standings next season. Achiuwa can be a high-upside bench guy right away for Rick Carlisle and company, especially on the defensive end.
The 6’9 freshman posted an incredible defensive rating of 82.5 in his 31 games for Memphis, blocking nearly two shots per game. Quick feet and shifty hands make him more than simply a rim-protector.
Just like Onyeka Okongwu, Achiuwa is more of a small-ball five than a true power forward, but his solid collegiate rebounding numbers should translate nicely given his hustle and hop.
He’s much more of a project offensively and given his less-than-ideal age (he’ll be 21 when the season tips in December), he might be closer to a finished product than desired.
Others have more upside, but Achiuwa’s defensive and rebounding presence should translate nicely into the Association.
