NBA Mock Draft 4.0 — Warriors Take Wiseman First, Hawks grab LaMelo
By Dallin Duffy
The Nuggets lost some of their young depth in the four-team Clint Capela, Robert Covington trade, but did pick up this selection from Houston to help rebuild that. Kira Lewis Jr is one of the more exciting players in the draft, featuring highlight-inducing shot creation skills and three-level scoring potential.
Not many NBA players will be faster than Lewis when he enters the league, even if his track-and-field style speed looks a bit normal in the NBA than it did in the SEC. He can go coast-to-coast in a blink and he could help his draft case even more if there is some sort of combine this summer.
Learning to hone in that athleticism will be Lewis’ hurdle, as he sometimes looked too fast for his own good in college.
Defensively, he’ll find into fine into Denver’s scheme. He does get abused on switches thanks to his small stature, but when covering other guards, he’s more than passable.
He’s more of a shooting guard than a true playmaker but can run the one on occasion. He could be a great long-term bench piece for the Mile High City.
