20. Pick Analysis. PF, Maryland. Los Angeles Lakers. Jalen Smith. 29. player. Prospect Profile

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Lakers flip this pick to add another veteran to help LeBron and AD win a title but for now, they take the best player available, Maryland’s Jalen Smith.

Smith exploded with a bigger role as a sophomore, starring on both ends of the floor and on the glass. He averaged 10.5 rebounds per game to go along with 15.5 points, 2.4 blocks, and a 54 percent field goal percentage.

He’s a smart player who seemed to always be in the right place, at the right time. That IQ helps him make up for a lack of elite athleticism.

It’ll be interesting to see if he can hide that lack of burst at the next level as well as he did in college, but he has the tools to be a role player for a long time.
