NBA Mock Draft 4.0 — Warriors Take Wiseman First, Hawks grab LaMelo
By Dallin Duffy
Unless you count Linsanity, the Knicks haven’t had a solid starting point guard since Stephon Marbury, and with this year’s free agency class being as weak as it is, they’ll have to turn to the draft again to find one.
Haliburton is a do-it-all playmaker whose shooting percentages were heads and shoulders above his fellow lottery guards. The Iowa State sophomore shot 50 percent from the field, 41 percent from three and 82 percent from the stripe in his 22 games last season.
There’s less upside to the 20-year-old than say Ball or Hayes, but Haliburton might be more pro-ready than either of them. He’s smart with the ball and should boast a great assist to turnover ratio throughout his career.
The 6’5 point guard lacks inside physicality, and won’t finish through contact with regularity. He averaged just two free throws per game in nearly 37 minutes. At 175 pounds, Haliburton has room to tack on some muscle and improve in that facet.
He could be the player to finally bring solid point guard play back to the Big Apple.
