Reacting to a new Atlanta Hawks jersey, color scheme.

The Atlanta Hawks are getting some new jerseys according to multiple reports on Twitter. Rob Perez, the Godfather of NBA Twitter first revealed the new look on Friday morning:

Sarah K. Spencer of the AJC confirmed that this was “one of the Hawks’ new jerseys” and hinted that there was more reveals to come.

There are a few things to unpack with the new jersey, most notably the color scheme. The black, red, and yellow look feel like a mashup of multiple eras of Hawks basketball. The blocky ‘HAWKS’ wordmark is unique, however, not drawing specifically from another jersey/look.

Also, in the top left corner, you can notice the lack of a Nike ‘Swoosh,’ instead, seeing a Jordan brand Jumpman. Last season, the Charlotte Hornets were the only team in the league to use Jordan branding instead of Nike, and it’ll be interesting to see if the entire league is moving to the Jumpman or just the Hawks.

In the original tweet by Wob, he noted that the look featured, “colors/trim with the theme celebrating “The Human Highlight” era.” In going by current NBA jersey standards, this would indicate that this jersey was a “city jersey,” an alternate which can be hybrids of a few former jerseys, such as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ one this season.

Spencer’s tweet would lead us to believe that the Hawks are getting a full rebrand with more jerseys to come. It’s unclear if this black/red/yellow scheme will become their primary one, or if this will be a true alternate jersey.

Majority owner Tony Ressler hinted that the Hawks would be getting new jerseys as they look to break into the playoffs next season, and this reveal lines up with that.
