Looking at clutch stats for the 2019-2020 Atlanta Hawks season.

Despite winning just 20 games last season, the Atlanta Hawks were able to make things interesting down the stretch in a handful of games. The NBA tracks clutch situations, defining those games as contests wherein the two teams are within five points of each other with under five minutes to play.

In the shortened 2019-2020 season, Atlanta played in 34 of those clutch games, just over half of their 67 total games. They went 13-21 in those games, and here we’ll be highlighting which players did the best in the clutch situations.

Trae Young

Definitely not a shocker to see Trae Young on here, who has built a reputation of being a 4th-quarter threat just two years into his career. Young shot just 39.4 percent from the field in clutch situations but was asked to do a ton. He averaged 3.1 shots in those moments; the next closest Hawk was at 1.8.

Young’s 4.2 points were most in the league (outside of Kyrie Irving, who played just 11 such games) in the clutch, making him one of the best closers in the NBA already.

De’Andre Hunter

De’Andre “Big Game” Hunter established himself as a clutch shooter in college, hitting a huge shot in the NCAA National Championship Game last year. Hunter carried his poised late-game play to the NBA, coming up big for the Atlanta Hawks in a few of their wins as a rookie.

Hunter drained over 42 percent of his threes in the clutch this season, most on the team and well above his season average of 35 percent.

Brandon Goodwin

The Hawks had not one, but two games that could be described as “the Brandon Goodwin game” last season. He took over in the fourth quarter twice, including scoring 19 in the final quarter to help beat a stout Clippers team.

Only Trae had more points and assists in the clutch than Goodwin, and only two big men (John Collins and Bruno Fernando) shot a better clip than him.
