Reacting to the NBA Draft Lottery results for the Atlanta Hawks.

The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery has officially wrapped, with the Atlanta Hawks walking away with the 6th pick in a fairly surprise-free night. It will be their third-consecutive season with a top-ten selection but unless a trade happens, will break their two-year streak with a top-five pick.

Coming into the night they had the fourth-best odds of winning the top pick, which instead went to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With a 25.7 percent chance of doing so, the sixth pick was their most likely landing spot. Is this bad? Kinda, but not really. Yesterday I laid out how the Hawks’ winning a mid-top-ten-pick may actually be better than them winning the top selection.

We’ll dig deeper into what players should be available in that range later on, but most mock drafts have names like Onyeka Oknogwu, Isaac Okoro, Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, and Deni Avdija going around this spot.

As for the rest of the teams, there was no surprising squad jumping way up into the top four. The Pistons and Knicks took disappointing falls while Charlotte and Chicago jumped up a modest amount.

The Timberwolves will select first overall for the second time since 2015.
